My entry for the YCN 2019/20 live briefs. I chose the UK Greetings brief, which was to create greeting cards, notecards, a notepad, gift bag, and wrapping paper.
I made two greeting cards. The cards are for Christmas, and they support the Special Effect charity. Special Effect is a charity that helps people with disabilities play games, which enhances their life, and helps with confidence and rehabilitation. I decided to choose video games as the theme of the collection because it fits with the charity. The illustration style was inspired by Abbas Husain (Bagman Studios).
I had to design a notecard set, which includes the box. I used a simple design for the box to make the collection logo, UK Greetings logo, and the examples of cards stand out.
I made two different varients of each illustration to make it a set of 10. Each illustration is based on a video game character. Banjo-Kazooie, Star Fox, Solid Snake, Dovahkiin, and Sonic.
The notepads have two varients of the notecard illustrations on the front and back. The pad can be flipped around, so the user can choose which cover they want.
I used shapes relating to the characters for the backgrounds of the wrapping paper. The circle is for the rings in 'Sonic' games, and the lightning bolt is part of a symbol of one of the groups in the 'Metal Gear Solid' games.
I used a mixture of dull and bright colours to create contrast, which makes the bag stand out.
